Joe, why would any SANE/PATRIOTIC Tucson citizen vote for any Trump sycophant? I very much like Tucson being a blue town! Now, the challenge is to rid us of a chickenshit MAGA Congressman who has never held a town hall in Tucson since he gained that office on 01-03-2021!!!
It is a very reasonable question but while Kevin Dahl called Tucson a "blueberry" last night the reality is different, it is more like a mixed berry pie.
Spoiler warning: I am going to use some math.
While only 22 percent of voter registration is Republican, 35 percent are independents (PND, not the No Label/Independent Party) and 42 percent are Democrats.
In a low turn-out municipal election, it is really hard to gauge who would show up at the polls. (FWIW, there are more registered Republicans in Ward 4 than Democrats.)
Trump absolutely was talked about a lot on the campaign trail, but there were serious groups (not politicians) who also have been pushing hard to criticize the current council and link them to specific issues (crime, the economy, public drug use, homelessness, etc) as part of campaign strategy.
Round numbers, only 22 percent of voters turned out. (This could change slightly after all votes are counted.) But I wonder what it would look like if it was 44 percent.
I am disappointed but not surprised. Our Council has been a club for Regina for too long and clubs like unity. (MAGA) For years Ward 6 was the seat of the Questioner and Koz filled the bill perfectly. He fought for us and often bucked the tide. M3333 stated the problem we have perfectly. The R ticket has become so toxic NO ONE wants to vote for it. I voted for Tolkoff the candidate, not the party. His views were more grounded and balanced, which I felt Ward 6 needs right now. Oh well. Go Club Regina. 🎪
I think Jay performed better than some of his predecessors did in the Koz V GOP candidate match-ups did in the past, but I'll do a deeper dive when all the results are in.

I actually identify as a Democratic Socialist!

I also voted against Prop 417 for the same reason. It was the Mayor’s brainchild and It got almost zero opposition coverage. No wonder it won.
I’ll note that the city is required to bring back the plan roughly every 10 years.
